Successful Completion of Freshers’ Orientation Program of the Department of Sociology & Anthropology for Spring-2022 Semester
It’s our immense pleasure to announce that the fresher’s orientation program for the Spring (2022) semester has been successfully completed by the Department of Sociology & Anthropology in collaboration with the Social Bonding Club through the Zoom video conference platform. We would like to inform you that we have organized two separate events for the Permanent and City Campus.

Dr. Abul Hossain, Associate Professor & Chairperson, the Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology, was the Chair of the program. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, Honorable Advisor, Green University of Bangladesh, was the chief guest of the program. Around 150 participants, including all the faculty members, Alumni Members, newly admitted students, and students from different batches, participated in the program actively. The program was divided into the following segments –
- The program started at 3.30 & 6.00 PM (PC & CC), 2 February 2022, by anchoring two GUB Social Bonding Club members: Robin Mirza & Sristizaman. At first, they welcomed the fresher students to the Department of Sociology & Anthropology on behalf of the department.
- MR. AHSAN HABIB, Assistant professor, Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology, showed an overview of different academic and co-curriculum activities of the department by a short video.
- After that, the newly admitted students of batch 221 introduced themselves, and some of them expressed their feelings and expectations from the department regarding joining the GUB Sociology family.
- On behalf of the regular students of the department, the GUSBC President and Vice President addressed various aspects of the departmental journey at GUB Sociology, including co-curricular extracurricular activities, along with the strong bondage between the faculty members and students at the department.
- Rehnuma Sharmin, the Mentor for the 2120 batch, gave her speech highlighting how students can get benefits out of the Student Mentorship program and how they can be attached to the different clubs of the university.·
- Three alumni students of the department Zinia Ferdous, Indar kumar Zidur, and Nuzhat Nowshin recalled their sweet memories with the department while they studied here, and they also highlighted the issues of how they were being supported by the faculty members towards their brilliant performances. Notably, Zinia Ferdous recently completed her Master’s degree from the University of Dhaka.

- MR. MD. SAMIUL ISLAM, Assistant professor, Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology, gave his valuable speech on behalf of the department and congratulated the freshers for joining the department. He also discussed the importance of studying sociology and its benefits by clarifying various opportunities of this subject
- MR. HUMAYUN KABIR, Lecturer and program coordinator of the department, commended the new students on making the proper choice in choosing our department as their first step toward higher education. He added that students should keep in touch with him as he is the department’s program coordinator. He also briefed about various academic activities to the fresher students.
- Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, Honorable Advisor, Green University of Bangladesh, delivered his valuable speech as the Chief Guest. He congratulated the fresher students for making the right decision by selecting this university as the first step toward their higher education. He said that as a student of sociology, they have to understand society and think about the overall improvement of society. He advised the newly admitted students to focus on skill development from the beginning of their university life. Finally, He thanked the organizing committee for arranging the orientation program.
- And finally, Dr. Abul Hossain, Associate Professor & Chairperson, the Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology, delivered the concluding speech by congratulating the fresh students for joining this department and shared some success stories of the department. He also reflected the wider field of application of sociology at the professional level so that the newcomers get a brief overview of the scopes of this discipline. And finally, he ended the program with thanksgiving to the program’s organizers.
- A cultural program was organized by GUB Social Bonding Club for the fresh students during the program. Students from different batches performed at the event.
