Successful Completion of Freshers’ Orientation Program of the Department of Sociology & Anthropology for Fall-2021 Semester
Greetings from the Department of Sociology & Anthropology. Hope this email finds you well.
It’s our immense pleasure to announce that the fresher’s orientation program for the Fall (2021) semester has been successfully completed by the Department of Sociology & Anthropology in collaboration with the Social Bonding Club through the Zoom video conference platform. Dr. Abul Hossain, Associate Professor & Chairperson, the Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology, was the Chair of the program, and Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, Registrar (in charge) was the chief guest of the program. Around 72 participants, including all the faculty members, Alumni Members, newly admitted students, and students from different batches, participated in the program actively. The program was divided into the following segments –

- The program started at 7.00 PM, 19 October 2021, through the anchoring by two GUB Social Bonding Club members: Salina Akter Mim & Sristizaman of 191& 211 batches. At first, they welcomed the fresher students to the Department of Sociology & Anthropology on behalf of the department.
- MR. AHSAN HABIB, Assistant professor, Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology, showed an overview of different academic and co-curriculum activities of the department by a short video.
- After that, the newly admitted students of batch 213 introduced themselves, and some of them expressed their feelings and expectations from the department regarding joining the GUB Sociology family.
- On behalf of the regular students of the department, the GUSBC President and the Event Secretary addressed various aspects of the departmental journey at GUB Sociology, including co-curricular, extracurricular activities, along with the strong bondage between the faculty members and students at the department.
- Rehnuma Sharmin, the Mentor for the 2120 batch, gave her speech highlighting how students can get benefits out of the Student Mentorship program and how they can be attached with the different clubs of the university.
- An alumni student of the department Zinia Ferdous recalled her sweet memories with the department while she studied here, and she also highlighted the issues of how she was being supported by the faculty members towards their brilliant performances. Notably, Zinia Ferdous is now pursuing her Master’s degree at the University of Dhaka.
- MR. MD. SAMIUL ISLAM, Assistant professor, Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology, gave his valuable speech on behalf of the department and congratulated the fresher’s for joining the department. Moreover, he talked about the teacher-student relationship of this department and reflected the commitment of all the faculty members of the department for boosting up the confidence level of the students of all levels.

- MR. HUMAYUN KABIR, Lecturer and program coordinator of the department, commended the new students on making the proper choice in choosing our department as their first step toward higher education. He added that students should keep in touch with him as he is the department’s program coordinator.
- Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, Registrar (in charge) of GUB, delivered his valuable speech as the Chief Guest. At first, he congratulated the fresher students for making the right decision by selecting this university as the first step toward their higher education. Then he highlighted the strength of this department and how they can get the best output from the Department of Sociology & Anthropology. He also discussed the importance of studying sociology and its benefits by clarifying various opportunities of this subject.
- And finally, Dr. Abul Hossain, Associate Professor & Chairperson, the Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology, delivered the concluding speech by congratulating the fresh students for joining this department and shared some success stories of the department. He also reflected the wider field of application of sociology at the professional level so that the newcomers get a brief overview on the scopes of this discipline. And finally, he ended the program with thanksgiving to the organizers of the program.
- At the second session of the program, a cultural program was organized by GUB Social Bonding Club for the fresh students. Students from different batches performed at the event.
